ExperioLingo teaches people how to acquire a language, not just how to study one. Our position is that language is acquired through experience, not assembled through study. You can know that the dative case exists and still freeze at the bakery counter. That isn’t a gap in your knowledge. It’s a gap in your conditions. Conscious study of a language’s mechanics (the tables, the rules, the endings) doesn’t just fail to produce acquisition. It gets in the way of it. Acquiring a language means being able to use it when it counts.

DELA stands for Dynamic Experiential Language Acquisition. It’s the framework underneath everything we do. It grew out of years of watching people acquire a language while they were busy doing something else, and then working out exactly why that worked. Your brain has a language-acquisition capability that never switched off. It doesn’t respond to explanations. It responds to conditions.

• Experiential and content-rich. You’re doing something real, and the language comes with it.
• Relevant, concrete and meaningful. Not “the pen is on the table,” but the things you actually need this week.
• Dynamic, variable and repeatable. The same situation in a new shape, again and again, until it’s yours.
• Calibrated to you. Not to a syllabus or a certificate, but to your actual level, today.

Hold all four at once and acquisition happens, whether or not anyone announces a lesson. Drop one and you’re back to studying.

From a forest. Our founder developed and ran a programme called English in Nature: German children, outdoors, learning English without a single lesson taking place. They needed English to find the thing, build the thing, or talk someone into something, so they used it. That insight doesn’t stop applying when you turn eighteen. Adults don’t lose the capacity. They lose the conditions, because adult life rarely hands you afternoons where you need a new language to get something you actually want. So we build those conditions on purpose.

Christine, our founder. She has studied the psychology of how people acquire and develop language for over thirty years, and for many years she has taught languages and designed her own language programmes. She lives in Wiesbaden. She is an English speaker who learned to live her life in German, so she knows which parts of that are hard, and it isn’t the grammar.

Because it’s comfortable right up until you get cut off: socially, emotionally and functionally. In any situation where the people around you are talking, socialising or discussing things that matter to you, you’re left out of the German-language conversation. That’s a high price for a quick and convenient “comfort,” and nobody enjoys sounding less capable than they are. Taking part in German isn’t comfortable at first, but it’s the only thing that changes the game. It gets more comfortable as you move through the steps, one at a time. Our standard phrase for where that leads is Clarity, Confidence, Connection.

No, that’s a myth. Many Germans like to say that most of them do, but that ignores everyone who gets left out of English-language conversations, and it’s far more people than you’d think. Many were also taught to feel ashamed of not having learned English. For you it means the Germans who talk to you are mostly the ones confident enough to try English, while far more people have stories about life here that you’ll never hear. And please don’t blame anyone for not being “good at languages.” It’s never the fault of the learner. Every human is born with the ability to acquire languages, and the mechanisms are the same for everyone.

Next Level German is ExperioLingo’s first programme: German for English-speaking adults who are building a life in Germany, not collecting certificates. It combines structured DELA tracks, live practice with real people, and a network of local businesses that know why you’re there.

No. Language schools mostly teach from course books. We teach through activities and projects: purposeful, meaningful, practical use of the language while it’s being introduced and modelled for you. It’s an ancient technique, and it’s not generally available at language schools. We don’t talk about the metadata of the language. We simply use it for the purposes at hand. That’s why we call it a language acquisition training programme.

English speakers who live here, who can order a coffee and still can’t handle a phone call. That includes complete beginners and people who understand quite a lot of German but lose their nerve when it’s time to speak.

No. It isn’t a grammar course, a certificate mill, or another 400 flashcards. We don’t start by giving you more to study. We start by making everyday situations survivable, then repeatable, and then yours.

Apps aren’t bad. They’re just not enough. Material alone doesn’t produce acquisition. What’s missing is the experience: real situations, with real people, that are meaningful to you, repeatable, and pitched at your level. That’s the part we build.

Yes. Learners can enter at different starting points. Track A is where the method itself becomes clear, so it’s what we recommend for beginners and for anyone who wants a supportive foundation. But each Track stands on its own, and you can begin wherever fits your life right now.

You’re not bad at German. You’re overextended. You moved countries, you’re deciphering forms and letters with deadlines, and every ordinary thing costs you three times what it used to. By evening your capacity is spent, and “learning German” on top of that feels impossible. That’s the real blocker, not vocabulary, grammar or your accent. The German is the vehicle, not the destination.

Everyday situations stop knocking you over (stability). You sound as capable as you are (competence). You join in, and you sound like yourself again (agency). And you’re in on the conversation (belonging).

Next Level German is built around Wiesbaden, where our practice network of local businesses and organisations is. Wiesbaden is the first ExperioLingo Network pilot city. Additional locations are planned but are not yet available.

We map the ordinary German life you’re actually living (the bakery, the pharmacy, the doctor’s reception, the hardware shop, the hairdresser) into a trail of real places across Wiesbaden. Then we ask those places to join in. A course on a server can simulate this, but only at a fraction of the scale, and only as a rehearsal. A network in a real city is the real thing.

They welcome you knowing you’re a learner, even a beginner. They’ve been briefed and have agreed to our rules of engagement. They keep speaking German rather than switching to English the moment you hesitate. They don’t translate for you, correct your mistakes, or teach grammar. They offer a slightly slower, slightly kinder version of the same conversation, which turns one of the most stressful parts of learning German into the safest part of your week.

The Life-Essentials Trail is planned across 28 everyday categories: bakery, pharmacy, gas station, weekly market, supermarket, butcher, café, hairdresser, bank, post office / parcel shop, general practitioner, dentist, optician, bookstore, florist, dry cleaner / tailor, shoe repair, hardware store, bicycle shop, gym, restaurant, wine tavern, car mechanic, nail salon, veterinarian, rail service point, pet supply shop and garden center.

More trails are planned over the coming months, including kids and babies, fashion and style, wellness and health, sports, a foodie trail (restaurants and wine spots), relocation relief (home appliances, new-home basics, car and van rental, DIY stores), tradespeople on site, home and garden care, and pet-owner hotspots, with more to follow.
